"Lessons I've Learned Along the Way"

Kathleen Brown claims many professional distinctions, any one of which could stand as the capstone to a distinguished career: senior leader at global investment giant Goldman Sachs, President, Bank of America’s Private Bank, California State Treasurer, Trustee on the boards of CalPERS and CalSTRS, Co-chair of the Council of Institutional Investors, Commissioner of the Los Angeles Board of Public Works.

Brown was the Democratic nominee for California governor in 1994. Her leadership in public service and at the highest levels of the financial services industry brings a special understanding and insider’s perspective on how to get things done. Her work in energy includes more than $4.2 billion in California water and power bond financings.  Her twelve year tenure at Goldman Sachs was marked by helping nonprofit healthcare institutions in California and the Midwest finance their capital needs as well as negotiate the challenges of healthcare reform.

Brown was recently recognized as one of "The LA 500: The Most Influential People in Los Angeles,” by the Los Angeles Business Journal.  She is presently serving on the Board of Directors, Renew Financial; Stifel Financial Corp.; Five Point Holdings; Sempra Energy; National Park Foundation; Member, Annenberg Foundation – Investment Committee; Founding Director, The California Women’s Foundation; Member, Los Angeles 2024 Olympic Bid Committee; Board of Directors, California State Chamber of Commerce; Member, Council on Foreign Relations; and Board Member, Stanford Center on Longevity.  She is presently at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips as a partner in the Los Angeles office.
